24 engineering students supervised by the MED-WET project team visited the project's experimental pilot site for testing and operating the experimental engineering instream wetland wastewater treatment (with several alternatives) to naturally treat wastewater in Sekem Farm, El-Wahat El-Bahareya by using low-cost technologies including domestic sewage and the farms' excess agricultural drainage water. During that field visit, the students significantly contributed to the initial operation and testing of the experimental pilot. The technical trip was conducted during (29 April - 4 May 2023) and concluded successfully. The students returned with interesting field experience and technical knowledge in the field of wetland treatment for irrigation purposes (transforming polluted and risky water into opportunity). We thank the HU managers of the Community Based Learning Program (CBL) for supporting our technical visit and for availing all facilitation arrangements to conduct such a successful trip.
